Explore la historia no contada de las contribuciones de las mujeres a la fabricación de cigarros en The Wolfsonian-FIU el jueves, 16 de mayo . Este evento gratuito, titulado De la semilla al humo: Descubriendo el papel de la mujer en la industria del cigarro , arroja luz sobre el papel vital que han desempeñado las mujeres en el cultivo del tabaco y la producción de cigarros. Como contrapunto, el programa coincide con la actual instalación del museo, Smoke Signals: Cigar Cutters and Masculine Values , que profundiza en la historia de los cortadores de cigarros y su asociación con la masculinidad.
Las oradoras destacadas Yvette e Yvonne Rodríguez, fundadoras de Tres Lindas Cubanas Cigars, compartirán historias familiares y conocimientos sobre las experiencias de las mujeres afrocubanas que trabajan en la industria del tabaco. La charla estará moderada por la educadora del museo Susana Pérez.
Antes de la presentación, de 6 : 15 a 18:45 h , la curadora Lea Nickless dirigirá un recorrido por la exposición Smoke Signals. Este evento se presenta conjuntamente con CasaCuba de FIU.
