Onajide Shabaka: Estudio para caminar en Miami

Descubra paisajes ocultos y explore el lenguaje de las plantas a través de la creación artística en un recorrido a pie por un 'estudio' dirigido por Onajide Shabaka , un artista del sur de Florida cuyas obras de arte se centran en la etnobotánica, la geología y la arqueología en su relación con la historia, la sociedad y la cultura humanas. Extendiéndose más allá de un espacio de estudio tradicional. El "estudio" de Shabaka es a menudo un espacio metafórico, como un paseo o una caminata en el entorno urbano o rural. Su práctica de caminar basada en investigaciones, tanto al aire libre como en el estudio, explora el medio ambiente y su biología. Con esta práctica única, Shabaka descubre historias específicas de sitios que revelan narrativas ocultas.
El Miami Walking Studio de Shabaka se compone de cuatro programas que se llevan a cabo en dos jardines ubicados en los campus del Miami Dade College. En esta experiencia de inmersión, los participantes están invitados a participar en la práctica de caminar del artista y descubrir paisajes ocultos y plántulas, rocas u otros detritos naturales que se pasan por alto. Guiados por la experiencia del artista, los participantes explorarán estos entornos y profundizarán en el lenguaje de las plantas con técnicas de dibujo, mapeo y grabado que culminarán en la creación de una pieza colaborativa. De los cuatro programas de Miami Walking Studio , dos están abiertos al público y dos están abiertos exclusivamente a estudiantes del MDC.
Para el 24 de febrero En esta entrega de la serie Miami Walking Studio, Shabaka guiará a los asistentes a través del Palmetum del MDC North Campus, un jardín escondido que servirá como estudio de arte durante el día. Las hojas, ramitas y semillas que se encuentren durante la exploración del Palmetun servirán como herramientas artísticas. Combinados con herramientas y técnicas tradicionales como la fotografía Polaroid, el dibujo y el carboncillo, los participantes crearán sus propias obras de arte únicas, que podrán llevarse a casa.
