El gran jefe del NEA Jazz, Donald Harrison, ocupa el centro del escenario en Pinecrest Gardens en sábado, 18 de enero , como parte de la 2024 - 2025 Serie Jazz. Harrison, un saxofonista y compositor versátil de Nueva Orleans, es celebrado por sus contribuciones innovadoras al jazz, el soul, el funk y la música clásica. Aclamado como un genio por íconos musicales como Eddie Palmieri y Mike Clark, la influencia de Harrison se extiende a través de generaciones y géneros.
Reconocido como el Gran Jefe de la Plaza del Congo en la cultura afro-nueva Orleans y jefe en la República Democrática del Congo, el impacto de Harrison va más allá de la música y llega a lo profundo de las tradiciones culturales. Su extensa carrera incluye colaboraciones con grandes del jazz como Miles Davis, McCoy Tyner y Ron Carter. El espíritu innovador de Harrison se refleja en su labor pionera de Three distintos estilos de jazz: una interpretación de jazz moderno de la tradición de segunda línea de Nueva Orleans, el nouveau swing y los éxitos del smooth jazz de los años 90.
En 2022 Harrison recibió el prestigioso premio NEA Jazz Master, un testimonio de su duradera influencia en el mundo del jazz.
