Vea instalaciones de arte ambiciosas y experimentales que activan el Paradise Courtyard del MOCA como parte del programa público inaugural del museo, Welcome to Paradise . Para la segunda instalación de la serie del programa, Welcome to Paradise presenta Into the Great Dying: Roles We Play , una instalación de esculturas de cerámica que invita a la reflexión y que interactúa con el paisaje marino y destaca los ecosistemas de arrecifes de coral en declive y el impacto de las acciones humanas.
Como alternativa a la retórica sobre cómo los humanos han contribuido a dañar los frágiles ecosistemas de la tierra, esta instalación alienta al público a participar en la reconstrucción de un arrecife. La experiencia táctil de sostener réplicas de especies de coral locales en riesgo tiene como objetivo crear una experiencia de conexión a tierra para los visitantes, alentándolos a adoptar un enfoque consciente del clima que cambia rápidamente.
La instalación presenta cientos de piezas fundidas a mano que representan varias especies de corales nativos. Cuando los visitantes las ensamblan, las esculturas resultantes representan el sistema de arrecifes del sur de Florida. Las cinco especies seleccionadas por el artista son coral cuerno de ciervo (Acropora cervicornis), cuerno de alce (Acropora palmata), cerebro (Diploria labyrinthiformis), pilar (Dendrogyra cylindricus) y abanico de mar (Gorgonia ventalina). Estas especies varían en forma y tamaño, lo que refleja la biodiversidad local. Cada uno es común al área y está en peligro de extinción o se utiliza para proyectos de restauración, como viveros de coral.
Welcome to Paradise presenta proyectos de arte público temporales de artistas locales del sur de Florida. La edición inaugural de Welcome to Paradise exhibirá artistas con obras que exploran la intersección de la ecología y la tecnología. La exhibición fue posible gracias al importante apoyo de la Fundación John S. y James L. Knight. La Fundación Andy Warhol para las Artes Visuales proporcionó apoyo adicional.
